Onyx has been named Best Individual Property in the UK and Ireland at the GSL Awards 2026, and we couldn’t be prouder. Our superb Birmingham student accommodation beat four other shortlisted buildings to take the title, and it's you, our residents, who made it happen. Onyx Wins Best Individual Property at the GSL Awards 2026

Why Does This Award Matter?

While many top industry awards are decided behind closed doors, the GSL awards work differently. The results are entirely decided by students, with their own experiences and feelings informing how they vote. That’s why this is such a special piece of recognition for us. This victory feels like a thank you from our residents, past and present. You love Onyx, and that’s what matters most to us. The property was also shortlisted for the Best Learning Environment award, so it was a huge night for everyone involved with Onyx.

Why Did Onyx Win?

Step inside Onyx and you’ll soon see why our residents rate life here so highly. There’s an on-site gym for the days you want to burn off exam stress, and a cinema lounge for the nights you’d rather switch off completely. The games hub has a pool table, table tennis, table football and air hockey, so a quick break can easily turn into a very competitive evening. Private dining rooms are perfect for birthdays and big group dinners. When you need to focus, dedicated study rooms are ready and waiting. When you need some fresh air, the courtyard and open roof garden are right there. Then there’s the 24th-floor terrace, where panoramic views over Birmingham make even a quiet Tuesday feel like an occasion. Everything is built around making student life easier. Utility bills and contents insurance are included, and fast internet comes as standard, so there’s one less thing to worry about at the end of the month. Our rooms range from Classic to Platinum across ensuites and studios, to suit different budgets and tastes.

In the Bustling City of Birmingham

Bars, restaurants and shops are on your doorstep. Aston University and Birmingham City University are close by, and the city’s other main universities are within reach, so the journey towards lectures is never a long one. That leaves more time for the good stuff, like exploring the city with your flatmates. If you need inspiration, our Birmingham bucket list is a great place to start.

The Team Behind the Dream

A great building needs great people. Our team is on site 24 hours a day, so there’s always someone to help, whether it’s your first week in the city or a question at midnight. Onyx is also a Safe Space Alliance listed property with a 4.8 rating on StudentCrowd. Both reflect what residents think, and they say plenty about the community here.
